About This Disease

Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint condition.Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis, caused by the gradual breakdown of cartilage in joints, leading to pain, stiffness, and reduced mobility. It most often affects the knees, hips, hands, and spine.

மூட்டுகளில் உள்ள கார்டிலேஜ் (cartilage) எனப்படும் மென்மையான திசு மெதுவாக சிதைந்து போகிறது.
அதன் காரணமாக எலும்புகள் நேரடியாக ஒன்றோடு ஒன்று உராய்ந்து வலி, வீக்கம், மற்றும் இயக்கத்தில் சிரமம் ஏற்படுகிறது.

Symptoms - அறிகுறிகள்

• Pain that worsens with activity
• Stiffness, especially after rest
• Swelling around joints
• Reduced flexibility and mobility
• Grating sensation or bone spurs in severe cases

Causes - காரணங்கள்

• Primary osteoarthritis: No clear cause, often linked to ageing.
• Secondary osteoarthritis: Triggered by injury, infection, or deformity.
• Risk factors: Age, obesity, joint injuries, repetitive stress, genetics, and female sex.
