Sciatica

About This Disease

Sciatica is pain radiating along the sciatic nerve from the lower back through the hips and down each leg. Ayurveda views it as a Vata disorder affecting the nerve channels.

• Pain radiating from lower back to leg
• Sharp, burning, or shooting pain
• Numbness or tingling in the leg
• Weakness in the affected leg
• Pain worsening with prolonged sitting
• Difficulty moving leg or foot
• Lower back stiffness

• Herniated disc pressing on nerve
• Bone spurs on the spine
• Spinal stenosis (narrowing of spine)
• Piriformis syndrome
• Injury or trauma to the spine
• Degenerative disc disease
• Pregnancy and weight gain
